Tour/ Field Guide

A field guide is a professional who works in the tourism industry whose job is to guide and explain to tourists and the general public about sites of natural, cultural and historical importance. As geology plays a fundamental role in the creation of natural, cultural and historical sites, an understanding of geology and rock types is imperative if one wishes to become a field guide. In order to work as a professional field guide in South Africa, a person must obtain their qualifications from The Field Guides Association of South Africa (FGASA). To find out more about becoming a field guide visit the FGASA website: www.fgasa.co.za
