Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) are an integral part of all laboratory services. The QC specialist is responsible for the quality control system in the laboratory including QC material insertion rates, the method validation system ,and the data acceptance and data rejection systems. QC materials, sample preparation blanks, reagent blanks, preparation duplicates, weighed replicates and Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) are used to validate analyses.
Analytical methods are generally developed and validated in-house. This is industry-accepted standard practice due to the lack of a globally-recognised body/institute that governs geochemical analytical methods and technology. Most laboratories will, however, validate their methods meeting the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
