Metallurgist

A metallurgist is a type of chemical scientist who specialises in the processing of raw metals and refining them into alloys. Most of the metallic objects that we require in our daily lives are not pure, native metals but rather alloys or compounds made of many metals. Alloys are a lot stronger and more durable than native metals. Metallurgists are therefore responsible for creating these more durable alloys. On the other hand the metals that are required to create these alloys are not always found naturally in their native state. Rather these metal ores which are mined are composed of minerals such as oxides or sulphides which contain the desired metal. It is therefore the job of a metallurgist to find ways to separate the desired metal from the waste material and then further process this material into a purer form.
