Marine Geologist

Marine Geologists are geologists or geophysicists. The majority employers of marine geology is in fossil fuel extraction and prospecting. Engineering services commonly employ marine geologists too, as their knowledge of seabed geology is vital prospecting for any resource beneath the ocean bed. Marine geologists can work in management, scientific and technical consulting - often for third party organizations as consultants. They may be involved projects as wind farms. A smaller proportion of graduates will work in education, typically university academia, but also in research departments and labs mapping and/or sampling the ocean floor. Around the same percentage work in government roles; here, they may be involved in civic planning for public projects where the seafloor is a consideration. They may also work for disaster relief where the source of the disaster has a marine geological cause (such as a tsunami wave).
