In the field, they might use geological maps, geological surveys, and remote sensing techniques to locate potential mineral deposits. It can also require long days of hiking while carrying heavy equipment and rock samples, or long days of work at drilling or sampling sites.
In the office, exploration geologists use computer software to analyse and interpret the data they have collected in the field. They might create 3D models of the geology of an area to better understand the mineral potential. They also work closely with other professionals, such as geophysicists, geochemists, surveyors, geo-metallurgists and mining engineers, to determine the economic viability of a mineral deposit.
